Within the framework of the 5th Session of the State Congress "Forest Management and Rural Development to tackle Climate Change" was presented the Proposal for the Territorial Forest Development Agenda with Integral Management of Chiapas Basins 2018 -2024.
AMBIO was part of the Organizing Committee of this event, coordinated by the organization Bosques y Gobernanza AC. It includes regional associations of foresters, civil society organizations, forestry industry, technical service providers and representatives of the academy. The proposal contains a section of general considerations, which provides general and important data on the environmental and forest problems of Chiapas, framed in the punctual attention of the following axes:
- Production and Productivity: Actions to promote community forest management, boost the competitiveness of the sector and forest protection, through inter-institutional actions that address the serious problem of illegal logging.
- Forestry economy
- Organization and promotion;
- Regulations: legal certainty in lands of a forest nature;
- Monitoring of results and evaluation of forest policy.
This proposal seeks to reorient public policies towards the countryside, which since previous government periods has privileged agriculture and livestock, when in Chiapas there is a great forestry potential for the generation of jobs, the growth of the economy, the development of communities and ejidos , besides contributing to alleviate the poverty.
The project of the next Federal Administration contemplates the planting of 1 million hectares of forest trees, with an association of fruit trees in the South-Southeast of the country, to generate employment, restore and conserve forest ecosystems based on rural development and the environment. The proposal presented jointly, contemplates a common framework with the national strategy, so it is expected that it will be contemplated its integration in the different programs and plans related to this topic.
