In contribution to the analysis of the challenges of forest management in Mexico, different non profit organizations, small forestry companies and federal government officials were reunited to analyze the potential of this sector in the country.
In general, attendees pointed out different challenges to improve community forest management and to encourage the new forestry companies. Some of these challenges are the need to reduce the procedures for the registration of simplified forest management plans, the strengthening of forestry technical assistance, as well as their link to social enterprises and the promotion of the use of certified wood that allows fair prices .
It is important to highlight the need to create formal schemes of timber management with small producers or ejidatarios, that have small areas of agroforestry systems or traditional forest management, to facilitate their insertion into the market. As part of the results of the seminar, the signing of collaboration agreements and the creation of working groups to address specific issues were agreed in the short term.
