In November, a closing virtual workshop was held for the "Monitoring of the Forest Cover in Natural Protected Areas of the Selva Lacandona and Zoque Complexes for the Formulation of Strategies in the Reductin of Deforestation" project.
The purpose of the workshop was to present the following results to the partners and other key stakeholders of the project:
- 4 updated maps, two regarding changes in land use, and two according to the registry of government programs in the region
- 199 field points raised
- Training of 15 community technicians
- Impact analysis of 3 government programs (2 of CONANP and 1 from CONAFOR)
- Identification of strengthening points for 3 government programs, as strategies to reduce deforestation
This project was implemented by AMBIO and the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (CONANP), from August 2020 to November 2021, with funding from the Global Forest Watch (GFW) -Word Resources Institute (WRI).
Staff members of the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (CONANP), the National Forestry Commission (CONAFOR), the Ministry of Environment and Natural History (SEMAHN), the United States Forest Service (US Forest Service) , from The South Border College (ECOSUR), among others, participated in event.
The monitoring of these actions will be in the hands of CONANP and the US Forest Service for the Lacandona Jungle Complex.
