In May, the Regional Conservation Forum 2019 of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) was held in the city of Antigua Guatemala. This event brought together the members of IUCN in the Region (Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean) and contributed to the preparation of the IUCN World Conservation Congress, to be held in Marseille in 2020.
The objective was to share knowledge and experiences among the different partners (AMBIO is part of the Mexican Committee of IUCN) of the Region. During the first day, the experience of work, materials and tools developed by IUCN on the theme of Ecosystem Based Adaptation (EbA) for the Region was presented.
During the following days, meetings, workshops and talks were held in parallel, in which the different activities of the members of the Union were shown. For this meeting, the topic of Governance was present in the different spaces for analysis and discussion, as well as the indigenous peoples, as key actors for conservation. As part of the events, the regional presidency of IUCN was renewed and possible regional councilors were defined, which will be ratified at the Marseille Congress next year.
