The AMBIO Cooperative is in charge of the execution of the “Local Governance and Forest Fire Protection Project in ejidos of the Natural Resources Protection Area La Frailescana”. This project is funded by the Mexican Fund for the Conservation of Nature (FMCN), under the "Fire Management and Restoration Fund Program (FOMAFUR)".
This protected area is located in the region of Sierra Madre of Chiapas, so it has a special relevance as a biological corridor of flora and fauna, given to be located between the La Sepultura Biosphere Reserve and the El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve.
This project of local governance aims to implement a coordinated strategy for protection against forest fires, in nine ejidos of the Protecte Area of “La Frailescana”. As well as, to develop capacities of young people, men, women and brigade members of the National Commission of Protected Natural Areas of the Frailescana, through specialized courses for fire protection and good agricultural practices.
The project seeks to strengthen the institutional and rural brigades, with the renovation of the equipment, awareness raising activities, evaluation, planning of actions within the framework of the Regional Center of Forest Fires Region VI Frailesca (CRIF VI), as well as the restoration of affected areas by fires in 2019, through reforestation activities and soil conservation practices.
