Since its inception, Ambio has been carrying out activities in the Marques de Comillas region, including training and strengthening in fire management, and in the integral management of the territory.

The Marques de Comillas region is part of the Lacandon Jungle in the Southeast of Chiapas, México, which is characterized for being an ecosystem of high social and environmental biodiversity. The predominant vegetation is tropical rainforest, which is under social ownership.

The region is of the outmost importance since it is considered one of the few areas of the country with tropical forests, which have been being lost at the national level due to the growth of agricultural activities, growth of commercial crops, implementation of adverse policies, presence of forest fires, among others.

Ambio's proposal facing this scenario in the region – significant to minimize the aforementioned risks – is to promote avoided deforestation activities through incorporating the ejidos in the sale of carbon offsets, captured by the trees that grow.

At the same time, different activities are managed in a coordinated manner with the owners of forest resources that allow them to identify, plan and develop actions that improve their livelihoods, promote an inclusive organization, strengthened governance, local capacities and productive alternatives are promoted that are reflected in environmental, social and economic improvements for local populations.
