The AMBIO staff held a workshop with community and regional technicians participating in the Scolel’te Program, which are located within the Zoque Jungle–Sumidero Canyon Complex. It was carried out in the community of Efraín Gutiérrez, of the municipality of Berriozábal.
The objective was to provide updated information on the technical specifications used in the Program, analyze the current status of the Scolel’te plots within the Complex and update knowledge for the development of carbon monitoring with community technicians.
Nine community technicians, two regional technicians and AMBIO technical staff participated, as well as the participation of some local smallholders, who gave a tour in their plots, to conduct field training.
Each of the community technicians commented on the status of the carbon plots of the communities participating in Scolel’te. The issue of carbon accreditation, the programming of the following monitoring periods, the update of the information of smallholders and plots, among other topics, were also addressed. The activities were carried out within three plots: one with the taungya system, one with coffee timber plot and one of live fence.
Finally, a questions and answers session was held. The most outstanding thing was that the community technicians committed themselves to continue participating in the activities of the AMBIO Cooperative and the Scolel’te Program, as a personal commitment towards conservation.
