The AMBIO Cooperative hosted the meeting of the strategic partners of the GEF project- “Ensuring the future of global agriculture in the face of climate change while preserving the genetic diversity of the traditional agroecosystems of Mexico” (Agrobiodiversity).
This project is implemented by the National Commission for the Knowledge and Use of Biodiversity (CONABIO) and has the participation of the AMBIO Cooperative and the Institute for Sustainable Development in Mesoamerica A.C. (IDESMAC). The objective of the meeting was to establish agreements for its implementation in the state of Chiapas.
Mexican Agrobiodiversity, is a project that is implemented in six states of the country, with the objective of developing policies and mechanisms that support agrobiodiversity, conservation, sustainable use and resilience, through the promotion of knowledge of traditional agroecosystems and methods that maintain that agrobiodiversity in Mexico.
AMBIO has been considered an implementation partner for the proposal in the Zoque Jungles-Sumidero Canyon Complex. It is important to note that the central objective of the proposal is compatible with one of the ten adaptation measures that were developed for the PACC Climate Change Adaptation Program, prepared by AMBIO for this Complex.
This measure addresses the importance Promote and diversify traditional agro-productive activities of low impact and resilient to climate change with a gender approach, ensuring the implementation of commercial strategies in differentiated markets, which also ties with the actions that AMBIO has developed at the local level, in a joint work with the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (CONANP) for that region.
