Basic workshop on environmental regulations in Sierra Madre.

As part of the work of the project "Community Monitoring and Surveillance for Socio-Environmental Resilience in the Natural Resources Protection Area APRN La Frailescana", 35 community brigade members were trained on basic aspects of Environmental Regulations. The participants are part of four Community Survaillance Committees, from the communities of Plan de Ayala, Ignacio Zaragoza, Francisco Murguía and Juan Sabines of the Municipality of Villacorzo.

The event provided space to update the certification on the guidelines proposed by the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (PROFEPA), with which the Committees can obtain support to strengthen their activities.

In accordance with the Program for the Management of Protected Natural Areas (PROMANP), the function of the Community Surveillance is to carry out activities aimed to protect ecosystems, as well as the biodiversity. It seeks to encourage the direct and effective participation of the local population in surveillance and monitoring actions, which generate economic opportunities for the inhabitants.

In this sense, the ejidos and rural communities in the area have a wealth of culture and knowledge of the environment, aspects of great utility for community survaillance. This project is financed by the El Triunfo Conservation Fund (FONCET), the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (PROFEPA) and the APRN La Frailescana.
