During the visit of the Plan Vivo Standard to Mexico, a working meeting was held with environmental authorities of the State of Chiapas, such as the Secretary of Environment and Natural History of Chiapas (SEMAHN) and the State Representation of the National Forestry Commission (CONAFOR).
The pupose of this meeting was to link Plan Vivo and AMBIO, with the activities that SEMAHN has been developing. The bases of the Standard, the impact that it generates at the local level and the current situation of the Voluntary Carbon Market were addressed, as well as the strength of the Standard in the face of the challenges presented by this Market.
Through the experience of two decades of the Scolel'te Program and the Plan Vivo Standard in Chiapas, the relevance of the methodology for the context of Chiapas is proven, as well as the acceptance, appropriation and permanence of the participating farmers.
This outreach resulted in more commitments with the work that is already carried out at the local level for the forestry sector, as well as the strengthening of the relationship between AMBIO and Plan Vivo with CONAFOR and SEMAHN in Chiapas.
