The activities of training, awareness, restoration and delivery of equipment for the protection against forest fires concluded, as part of the work developed by the project “Local Governance and Protection against Forest Fires in Ejidos of the Natural Resources Protection Area (APRN) La Frailescana” La Frailescana”
During the months of work, it was possible to provide training against forest fires and first aid to 28 people belonging to community brigades of 11 ejidos (located in the municipalities of Villa Corzo, Montecristo de Guerrero and La Concordia). Likewise, they were provided with equipment like portable radio communication devices, GPS, and a camera.
Around 71 doses of mycorrhizae were delivered to 95 farmers participating in the project. The above, to publicize the benefits of the use of this bio-fertilizer and at the same time, discourage the use of fire in the plots, since its use does not require burning.
Likewise, a process of restoration and protection of 75 hectares of forests affected by fires, was promoted in 2019. The activities promoted were such as adjusting level curves of heavy and light fuels, filtering dams for soil retention, as well as cleaning the soil in areas with natural regeneration to support the development of forest shoots in the Juan Sabines Gutiérrez and San Marcos ejidos, in the municipality of Villa Corzo.
Finally, we acknowledge the participation of all the institutions that supported the development of this project, such as: the Mexican Fund for the Conservation of Nature (FMCN), the APRN La Frailescana, the National Forestry Commission, the National School of Civil Protection Campus Chiapas , The Risk Management Program of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Municipality of Villacorzo and the International Corn and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT), as well as the commitment of the communities to the conservation of the Area .
