As part of the closing activities of the project "Monitoring of the Forest Cover in Natural Protected Areas of the Selva Lacandona and Zoque Complexes for the Formulation of Strategies in the Reductin of Deforestation", the AMBIO Cooperative carried out three workshops for the presentation of preliminary results.
This collaboration project has considered the use of deforestation alerts (GLAD Alerts), for which, it has the support of the Global Forest Watch System (GFW), the World Resources Institute and the National Commission of Protected Natural Areas-CONANP Regional Offices.
The workshops had the participation of park rangers, operational technicians and community brigades from the different Reserves. Activities developed in the field were presented, such as: the preparation of the operational technicians in the use of GFW tools to collect deforestation alerts, as well as the training process in the use of tools, maps and field formats.
In addition, members of the brigades shared their experience with these activities, the challenges in the gathering information at a field level, as well as the importance of the information collected for the use of the communities and CONANP.
As part of the workshops, the technical staff of the Reserves carried out an activity to review the printed maps, where land use actvities, areas under restoration, conserved areas in each Natural Protected Area (NPA´s) were collected. Also, there was a space for the analysis of the government programs promoted in the Reserves, as well as their impact on forest cover, that will help identify opportunities for improvement.
