The project "Monitoring of the Forest Cover in Natural Protected Areas of the Selva Lacandona and Zoque Complexes for the Formulation of Strategies in the Reductin of Deforestation", held a workshop with key stakeholders during the month of September. The objective was to have the feedback of the field results and the update of the land use maps of two Forest Complexes in the state of Chiapas.
It was a virtual workshop and had the participation of the staff from: the AMBIO Cooperative, the US Forest, the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (CONANP), the Ocote Jungle Biosphere Reserve, the National Park Sumidero Canyon, the Montes Azules Biosphere Reserve, the Secretary for the Environment and Natural History (SEMAHN), the National Forestry Commission (CONAFOR), as well as serveral Civil Society Organizations that have participated in this project.
The importance of identifying tourist areas and population concentration points in the Complexes was addressed, to annex them to the polygons, and these information would need to be corroborated with the updated field information. To carry out this work, it was referred that the information on the variation of vegetation in the areas should be shared with all the actors involved, so that they can make their corroborations and corrections, with the information collected in the field.
It was determined that it is necessary to develop other workshops, which will allow to carry out the maps corrections, as well as the update of the feedback to the document of proposals for the reduction of deforestation in the Complexes, according to the schedule stipulated. This information serves as inputs for the proposals alredy identified for the Complexes.
