Resulting from the collaboration between the AMBIO Cooperative and the Certificadora Mexicana de Productos y Procesos Ecológicos (CERTIMEX), a follow-up workshop was held on the Scolel´te Program, aimed to organic coffee small farmers, members of CERTIMEX. It was developed in San Fernando , Chiapas.
The purpose of this collaborative work is to unite institutional efforts between the Organic Coffee Market and the Voluntary Carbon Market, through the Scolel’te Program. With the above, it seeks to contribute to the improvement of the living conditions of organic coffee small famers families and to strengthen activities that contribute to mitigate climate change.
The following members of CERTIMEX participated in the workshop:la Unión de ejidos y comunidades de San Fernando S.P.R., representantes de Productores de Café de Motozintla y la Sociedad de Solidaridad Social de SS (PROCAFEM). An informative session was held with technical aspects and a field tour to plots of three members of the Union of Ejidos San Fernando, in the municipality of Berriozábal.
The participants recognized the characteristics and specificities of the agroforestry systems managed by the Scolel'te program for carbon sequestration, and how these can contribute to the improvement of the areas that affect the coffee plantations or the surrounding areas, depending on the condition of each small farmer.
As part of the workshop outcomes, gaps and opportunities for engagement were identified. In the upcoming months, meetings will be held to specify the steps to be followed and strategies for the approach in the field.
