Earth Overshoot Day
On August 2 the Global Footprint Network stated that the current rate in the use of natural resources worldwide is unsustainable, since all the ecological limits of the Earth were exceeded on that day (Earth Overshoot Day, in English).
Starting this day we have entered into red numbers, the capacity of the ecosystems to regenerate has been exceeded by 74%. This excess is the result of deforestation, overfishing, overexploitation of agriculture, energy, among others.
However, the actions to reverse this trend consist in using a more efficient energy, reduce food waste, increase agroforestry systems, reduce forest fires and recover the forests. Therefore, advancing or delaying that date, as well as leaving resources for future generations, is in our hands.
