Production of forest plants for restoration through Assisted Natural Regeneration
Within the framework of the project “Restoration of emblematic landscapes in the Sierra Madre of Chiapas” supported by Conservation International, the AMBIO cooperative has installed three community nurseries. One of them is located in the Nuevo Vicente Guerrero ejido, Villa Corzo, this nursery has a production capacity of 120,000 plants. Currently, the nursery already has 700 forest trays with Ocote (Pinus oocarpa) seeds, with an estimated production of 54,000 plants for the 2024 restoration cycle.
On the other hand, the community brigade of the nursery, where 4 men and 4 women participate, took on the task of carrying out activities of collecting, cleaning and scarifying seeds of other native species such as: Guachipilín (Diphysa Americana), Corazón Bonito (Poeppigia procera), Matabuey (Lonchocarpus spp), Caobilla (Swietenia humilis), among others; Likewise, as one of the activities to strengthen the capacities of the community brigade in charge of the nursery, workshops were given for the preparation of sulfocalcium broth and Supermagro (biol), the first as a product that seeks to prevent damping off attacks and the second It will be used as an organic fertilizer to promote the reduction of agrochemical use.
