Attendance at the Forum on the challenges of the Voluntary Carbon Market.

Attendance at the Forum on the challenges of the Voluntary Carbon Market.

As part of the representation of the Plan Vivo Embassy for Mexico and Latin America, on November 14 Ambio participated in this Forum on the challenges of the Voluntary Carbon Market outside the project Strengthening capacities at the national and subnational level to meet Mexico's climate change goals, which was held in the City of Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas, México.

The event was organized by the Secretary of Environment and Natural History of the Government of the State of Chiapas (SEMAHN), in collaboration with Environmental Policy and Legislation (POLEA) and with the financial support of the British Embassy in Mexico through the Mexico UK Program -PACT (Partnering for Accelerated Climate Transitions).

The forum sought to analyze the opportunities and challenges of voluntary carbon markets (MVC) in their implementation, permanence and, above all, what the participation of local communities implies. In a complementary manner, through working groups, technical and administrative aspects were discussed that help strengthen the proposed regulation and modification of the General Law on Climate Change on carbon markets for its application in Mexico.
