Exchange of Experiencies in Forest Restoration

Exchange of Experiencies in Forest Restoration

The AMBIO Cooperative developed an "Exchange of experiences in forest restoration" between ejidos participating in the project "Local Governance and Protection against forest fires in the Natural Resources Protection Area (APRN) "La Frailescana", second phase", financed by the Fondo Mexicano para la Conservación de la Naturaleza (FMCN) and executed by AMBIO.

Ten people from the participating ejidos San Marcos and Juan Sabines, both from the municipality of VillaCorzo, Chiapas, were part of this exchange of experiences. The hosts of the events showed their activities and all the participants talked about their experiences, highlighting learning and challenges. Mr. Santiago, a participant from the San Marcos ejido, commented the following:

"With this we learned, to begin with, what and how to do it, and we also learned that it is possible to help the forest to recover more quickly after a fire."

Jaime Cruz, a member of the Juan Sabines ejido, also referred:

"It is also good to see that we are not the only ones doing this type of work, that there are other colleagues who are also concerned about caring for the forest."

The project seeks to contribute to the forest restoration of areas affected by forest fires, for which the participating ejidos have carried out activities such as: accommodation of forest fires fuels, containment barriers, filter dams, with the intention of helping the forest to restore itself.
